I wanted to share an easy DIY holiday decoration that will put you in the festive spirit and make your home smell divine. Now that’s what I call a win-win. I was inspired by a picture in House & Home magazine of a dried orange garland hanging on a mantle; there was just something simple and sweet about it that made me think of an old-fashioned Christmas. I wondered to myself, how hard could it be to make? As it turns out, not hard at all.

Dried Orange Garland
Here’s what you’ll need to create your own dried orange garland:
-3 oranges
-baking sheet
-parchment paper
-needle + thread/twine
Slice the oranges and lay them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 250 degrees for 5 hours. Cool completely. You can use any kind of thread; I found some vintage gold thread in my sewing box and thought it would look pretty, but you could also use something more heavy duty like twine. Thread the oranges, leaving room on either end of your garland to tie (or tape) it into place.
That’s it, folks! You’re going to love how amazing your home will smell as the oranges slowly bake in the oven; the scent of spicy citrus will send you over the edge in the best possible way. Plus, making your own decorations adds a personal touch to the holidays. It won’t last forever, but making your own garland might just become a source of joy for years to come.
