DR. SUZANNE SEMANSON
PT, DPT, OCS, CMPT

Anatomy of Practice Module: Postural Assessment + Injury Management

Dr. Semanson is a faculty member at the programs in physical therapy at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Her role there includes serving as the clinic director of the physical therapy faculty practice at Columbia University Irving Medical Center where she provides clinical services to patients with musculoskeletal injuries and mentors DPT students. She additionally serves as an instructor in the orthopedic track in Columbia’s doctoral physical therapy program. Dr. Semanson received her B.S. from the University of Michigan in biological anthropology and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Northwestern University. She is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, a Certified Manual Physical Therapist, and a certified Yoga and mat Pilates instructor. Prior to joining Columbia’s faculty at the start of the pandemic, she worked at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital’s Harkness Center for Dance Injuries (HCDI) as a clinical specialist for nearly 10 years. While at HCDI, she provided clinical services to NYC-dancers recovering from injuries, provided backstage coverage at Broadway theaters, contributed to dance medicine research, mentored clinical staff and designed, launched and directed their Performing Arts Physical Therapy Fellowship Program, which is among the first in the nation.

Flynn Coleman is an author, international human rights attorney, social justice advocate, Harvard Fellow, professor, and public speaker. Flynn has worked with the United Nations, the United States Federal Government, as well as with international companies, universities, and human rights organizations around the world. She holds a BSFS from Georgetown University, a JD from UC Berkeley School of Law, and an LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Flynn’s work touches on a vast array of human rights issues such as war crimes, genocide, human and environmental rights, gender equality, access to justice and education, social entrepreneurship, and artificial intelligence. Her book, A Human Algorithm, is a groundbreaking narrative on the urgency of humanely designed AI and a guidebook to reimagining life in the era of intelligent technology.

Jennifer Kurdyla is an Ayurvedic practitioner, yoga teacher, and writer based in Brooklyn, New York.
